Events & Opportunities
One Thursday night each month, we host a mandatory safety class to kick off your A Girl & A Gun adventure. You can sign up by clicking the RSVP button in the “How To Get Started” section above!
Each year, AG & AG Headquarters puts on a variety of amazing events – from Conference in Colorado (19 ladies from the San Diego Chapter attended in 2026!) to Glock Armory school, DRIFT academy (yes, you drift actual cars), and Rifle Retreat. You won’t want to miss out!
The second Saturday of every month, some SD chapter girls trek up to Rainbow Range for their monthly steel match. This is a great match for new competitors! Holster skills are required, so we recommend you wait until you’ve taken our Intro to Holster course.
Every other month on a Friday evening, we have an outdoor shooting event for our members who have taken our Intro to Holster class! We work on skills like shooting while moving – which can be difficult to practice at our regular, indoor range.
Each month, on a weekday from 11 AM – 1 PM we host an event where you can work on the pistol marksmanship program, or accelerate your skills under the leadership of our instructor team!
Each month, on a Thursday from 5 PM – 7 PM we host an event where you can work on the pistol marksmanship program, or accelerate your skills under the leadership of our instructor team!
Education. Training. Lifelong Friendships.
NO EXPERIENCE? NO PROBLEM. WE’LL MEET YOU WHERE YOU ARE.

Dakota grew up learning the importance of awareness and preparedness. After a frightening experience in San Diego, she chose to take her safety into her own hands and began training. That decision changed her life.
Through A Girl & Gun, Dakota became a certified firearms instructor, range safety officer, competitive shooter, and the facilitator of the San Diego Chapter.
Her mission is simple: to help women build confidence, develop real-world skills, and find a supportive community where they can learn and grow.
“Women deserve a friendly, welcoming environment where they can take their safety into their own hands – and have fun doing it.”
What Our Members Say
Firearms training that empowers far beyond the range.
-Shanelle
After my first shooting experience with A Girl & A Gun, I left feeling much more comfortable and capable handling a firearm.
-Gina
Dakota has taught me so much over the last few years…firearm safety is always her #1 priority, and right behind that is her commitment to teaching solid form, meeting people exactly where they are, and encouraging everyone along the way.
-Laura
Frequently Asked Questions
No! Women of all experience levels are welcoming, including complete beginners. Many members shoot a gun for the very first time at our Handgun Safety & Fundamentals Event. Our goal is to create a supportive, encouraging environment where you can build confidence and improve at your own pace.
No. While many members bring their own firearms, we often help newer shooters get started by providing loaner equipment, guidance, and recommendations. If you’re brand new and unsure where to start, we’d definitely prefer you try out some of our options before making a big purchase. We’ll help get you pointed in the right direction.
Definitely not. While some of our members enjoy competitions and advanced training events, most of our events are focused on education, skill-building, self-defense, and community. Whether your goal is concealed carry, personal protection, recreational shooting, or simply learning something new, there’s a place for you here.
We host a minimum* of 4 events each month at Discount Gun Mart on Morena Blvd, which are Handgun Safety and Fundamentals, Step Up, Girls’ Night Out, and Trigger Time. We also utilize other range facilities for special events, like shooting & moving skill building, social gatherings, specialized clinics (Stop The Bleed, Intro to Holster, Pepper Spray Use, and more). Event frequency can vary depending on the time of year, etc. but we often have between 4 and 7 events each month. The best way to stay updated is by joining the chapter and getting Stack Team App to see our event calendar.
*The month of December only has Handgun Safety and Fundamentals, Step Up, and a holiday party*
We recommend comfortable clothing that allows you to move safely and comfortably on the range. Closed-toe shoes and a ballcap are required, and high-cut shirts are strongly encouraged to help protect against hot brass. Depending on the event, you may want to bring layers, sunscreen, water, snacks, etc., but read the event description to see the recommended packing list.
Stack Team App is where members can RSVP for all of our regular events. If it’s your first ever event with A Girl & A Gun, you can RSVP for our next Handgun Safety and Fundamentals here: June 11th, 2026: RSVP and Event Description
Yes, our regularly scheduled events are for ladies, by ladies. All of our Range Safety Officers and Instructors are women, too.
We do occasionally have an event that allows guests, family members, or co-ed participation, but that would be clearly written in the event description.
That’s completely normal – and honestly, one of the most common things we hear from first-time attendees. Many women come to their first event with little or no firearms experience, and quickly discover how welcoming and supportive the community is. There’s no pressure to “already know everything.” We’re here to help you learn safely, ask questions, build confidence, and enjoy the experience at your own pace. We all started somewhere, and our instructors remember what it felt like to shoot for the first time. We’ll be by your side every step of the way.
